Solitude’s big mountain ski team is a season-long program for athletes ages 10 through 18 years. Students train and pursue high-end, all-mountain skiing on Saturdays and/or Sundays. This program provides children the chance to refine their skiing skills in a fun and competitive environment with the goal of creating well-rounded athletes who understand and display sportsmanship, teamwork, and mountain etiquette. Areas of emphasis include off-piste free skiing, moguls, steeps, trees, mountain awareness, and big mountain competition training. In order to be considered for the team, members must be able to ski expert runs safely and be capable of carving aggressive turns in a parallel stance. Our coaching staff applies IFSA, U.S. Ski & Snowboard FTS SkillsQuest, and PSIA methodologies.

Participants are eligible to compete in freeskiing competitions in the region as part of Team Solitude. Competitive participants are required to provide their own travel to competitions. On competition days, Solitude coaches meet athletes and parents at competition locations.

An IFSA membership is required for competition; there is an expectation that athletes in these groups will be skiing competitively.

Training begins Thanksgiving weekend and ends in April for our full-time athletes (more than one-day commitment). Training begins the first weekend of December for our part-time athletes (one-day commitment). Friday training is an additional commitment.

Friday full-day training is available between 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Friday afternoon training is available between 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.
Evening training on Mondays at Woodward Park City will be available from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. January 4 through April 5. This is a great opportunity to work on air awareness and tricks, and training will be available indoors and outdoors.

After athletes register with Solitude to train at Woodward, they will be provided with a link and 20% off code to purchase a discounted Woodward All Access Membership. This pricing requires a 6 month minimum commitment, with a recurring monthly charge and is exclusive to Solitude big mountain athletes only.
